Let’s bring some clarity to the issue of why buying in Canada can save you money, time and hassle. Everyone wants to save a dollar where they can and we understand that – which is why we work hard to offer you the best prices and save you money. We stand behind our USA Price Match policy and want the opportunity to show you how buying in Canada can actually save you money – so before you click “buy it now” on ebay or type “129.99 usd in Canadian”  into Google here are some points to consider.

  • Canadian Owned and Operated: We are a Proud Canadian Company, supporting the Canadian economy, and hiring Canadian staff.  Buying from Teknotik keeps your hard earned dollars in Canada and helps support people within your Country, and ultimately boosting the Canadian economy.  We buy locally whenever we can – from the tape your box is packaged with to the printed flyers that we hand out. This is a win-win situation for everybody.
  • Exchange Rate: All products on our site are listed in Canadian funds.  When you purchase from the United States, your credit card is charged in US funds, and then your bank converts the charge to Canadian at the prevailing “bank rate” (marked up) – not the direct exchange rate.  Almost all credit cards also apply a 2.5 per cent foreign exchange (forex) fee after the original U.S. dollar transaction is converted into Canadian funds. As an example; if the Canadian dollar is 0.75$, this does not mean you will pay 1.25$. You will pay 1.38$ via your credit card.
  • Shipped from Canada: Unlike some companies who claim to be “Canadian”, we ship every item directly from us; packaged and shipped. This matters because some Canadian companies while the may be based in Canada, ship your item from an American supplier to you to try and make an extra buck, meaning you may be subject to duty and brokerage charges when your item shows up because it did not come from within Canada. You also save with a lower overall shipping cost being as the package can have a shorter distance to travel to you.  Just check out our Instagram or Facebook to see the hard work being done in our shipping department.
  • Brokerage Fees: All products purchased from Teknotik are shipped from Canada. There will not be any brokerage fees charged on your order from us or Fedex on delivery to you.  Also if you have ordered more than one item when purchasing from the US, you may receive multiple brokerage charges if the company sends your order in separate shipments. When you ship something to Canada, you’re essentially hiring someone (the shipping company) to represent you to bring goods across the border. The brokerage fees are usually a percentage of the shipment’s value or a minimum fee. It’s much like a handling fee and what a broker will do is fill in the appropriate paperwork, often just a single form stating the package’s content and value, and send it and the appropriate duty and taxes to the government.Listed below are the current posted UPS Brokerage charges for importing goods into Canada.  UPS will typically not deliver to you in Canada unless the fees are paid in advance, which means delay in that being processed.
  • Estimate duty and taxes: Use the Government Of Canada Duties Claculator CLICK HERE This amount does not include brokerage fees.

Additional fees include: COD Fee of $4.25, Additional Classification Lines (after the first 5 lines) Fee of $4.50 per line.

Fedex International also has similar fees for importing good into Canada.

  • Duties: All products purchased from Teknotik do not have any additional duty charges.  Currently, only items manufactured in Canada, United States or Mexico are duty free (And this is only if the manufacturer has completed the required Nafta application). Most companies who make things for Hondas have not. This may however disappear with Trump coming into office in the USA.  Items that are manufactured anywhere else are subject to duties and are typically charged by the shipping company at the time the order is being cleared to enter Canada.  Even though the goods are being shipped from the United States, they are still subject to duties based on what country the item is made.  Some example rates of duty are provided below:
Automobile Parts: 8.5% of purchase price.
T-Shirts, Sweatshirts and other Apparel: 18% of purchase price.
    Hats: 12.5% of purchase price.
  • Tax: Just because you are buying in the USA don’t think you won’t have to pay tax like you would when buying in Canada. Fedex and UPS’s job is to collect the tax on behalf of the government for your order coming into Canada.  They will add the tax on top of these fees mentioned above.
  • Returns: Having an issue with your product? Warranty help? Need to return a core? We are located in Toronto, Ontario and you are able to ship any returns to us in Canada.  When returning an item to the United States, paperwork needs to be filled out, and many times US companies will not accept returns from Canadian customers (because of the duty charges associated with it).
